In May of 2010, we accomplished our goal of being able to supply our customers with Certified Organic Roasted Soybeans. It just seemed like the right thing to do given our years of soybean processing experience. We chose a “CalorMatic Heat Processor” by Sweet Manufacturing for this job due to its modern technology, efficiency, and simple operation. A precision roast is achieved when heated air passes through the fully perforated bed of the product chamber. The soybeans are gently floated and turned in a fluid bath of hot air without contact to flame, while positively and continuously moving with a conveyor system. The fluidized bed of soybeans is gently, thoroughly, and evenly heated to a consistent finish. There are no over-cooked or under-cooked results when the accurate temperature control system is employed.

The benefits of heat processing and precooking soybeans for livestock feeds have long been known, as heat is necessary to convert many raw ingredients into digestible feed. Heat processing opens up the endosperm structure of grain, making nutrients more available. It also “predigests” or partially gelatinizes starches depending upon the initial moisture content to make them more readily available to digestive enzymes. Fats and proteins are also made more available with cellular disruption and the denaturing of naturally occurring inhibitors of protein digestion. The result is a higher level of TDN (total digestible nutrients) for reduced feed volume requirements and cost savings.

All livestock, including hogs, poultry, turkeys, etc., benefit greatly from the high density of energy and highest quality of oil and protein found in “full fat” soybeans. Dairy cows take advantage of “bypass” protein for increased milk production when soybeans are properly heat treated and steepened.

Our Organic Roasted Soybeans have great palatability; animals love the taste. Natural vitamins and fats remain in the roasted soybeans as our roasting process does not destroy them.
